One of my favorite purple strip varieties. An excellent choice for roasting or baking with its ultra sweet and creamy texture! Holds its shape quite well when baked. Chesnok red has a lovely shape and purple hue that makes it a favorite among gardeners. Chesnok means garlic in Russian, which is no surprise as it was collected in 1985 in the village of Shvelisi in the southern Republic of Georgia. This is perhaps the most popular heirloom garlic and is sometimes referred to as the gateway garlic due to it commonly being the first variety people learn to grow.
