- Fly Swatter
Don't let its elegance fool you; this is a solid, well balanced fly swatter made from straight grained white oak and laminated walnut handle. The handle is made almost exclusively with hand tools as it is simply work that can't be done on a machine. The leatherwork is also done entirely by hand; including the stitching where I use a technique that requires the use of two needles at once to achieve the even and very strong stitching. I use a strong adhesive to laminate two pieces of leather around the head of the handle which is shaped like a copper head so that when the stitching is complete there is virtually zero chance of the leather sliding off the end of the handle if the adhesive ever became loose. The leather has some small holes punched in it to allow the air to pass through when you strike at a fly that is on a flat surface. This prevents the fly from being blown out from under the flapper when you swing the fly swatter at its target. After all the shaping and leather work is complete, the handle is finished with a hand rubbed, all natural blend of oils and waxes that gives excellent protection and beauty to the woodgrain. Each fly swatter is signed and dated by its maker.
