White Oak Blanket Chest

Beautifully quarter sawn white oak finished with a natural tone, hand rubbed oil finish. Other than the torsion hinges (which work like a laptop hinge), there is no metal fasteners in the whole chest. Everything is traditional mortise and tenon joinery - 24 hand chopped mortises and 32 tenons to be exact. The lid on the chest is fitted with draw bore style breadboard ends to keep it forever flat.

Walnut Breadboard

Black walnut breadboard featuring a 4 point maple wood star inlayed into the surface and a finely sculpted handle for beauty and comfort.  The handle is laminated from maple and Kansas grown osage orange wood. You can see I also left some of the original sapwood along the edges of the breadboard for more character and a nice contrast with the dark heartwood. All the sculpting was done by hand. Even the star was carefully cut, assembled and then recessed into the surface completely with hand tools. You may think some of the pieces where stained to give them their color but that is not the case; the whole breadboard was finished with the same all natural oil that simply protects the natural color and beauty of the wood without changing it from its natural form.
