Babies have started arriving and we are so excited! The barn is literally hopping with kids and it's so much fun to go visit all of the babies and mamas. Just like with people, some babies are super out going and curious while others are a bit shy and hesitant. Each kidding season is so different and this year has been exceptional in one particular area so far...we have been blessed with an abundance of buck kids! Otherwise known as buckitis, buck fever, buck mania...bucks, bucks, and more bucks. We know that we have several people waiting on doe kids and we still have more kids to come! Praying for doelings daily!
The rest of the farm is springing into spring too! And we are so ready for long days in the garden. The coming planting, harvesting, and preserving season. And the longer days! We love the restful pace of winter, but are hitting the ground running everyday and at the end of the day, we keep wondering how the day disappeared so quickly! Potatoes and corn are planted. All of the cool weather crops are planted. The fruit trees are blooming. The asparagus is trying to make a go of it and we even got to forage for morels recently. It has been a really dry year though so there wasn't much to gather. We have a couple more weeks of kidding ahead of us and then we switch much of our attention to milk production and gardening. We love this time of year and sure are tired at the end of the day!

This is such an exciting and sweet time on our little farm. All kinds of babies are being born and are growing.
Ducklings are hatching out. Kids are due any day. We check the barn frequently to see if there is even the slightest change in any of the does that are due. And plant babies are under all of the grow lights and being transplanted into the large garden beds as we anticipate our upcoming harvest season. It's getting busy and we are looking so forward to all that Spring on the farm has to offer us! |
